I've provided an outline all of the practical details of the job first.
Beneath that there is an ‘A little bit about us’ followed by the details of who we're looking for!
Job details:
Days and hours: 4 x 3.5 hour shifts per fortnight
Week one: Tuesday 5:30am – 9am
Week two: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 5:30am – 9am.
Location: Ivanhoe (School Drop off is also in Ivanhoe).
Pay rate: $34-$40 an hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
Shift type: Before School Care, assistance with morning routine and getting ready for school, followed by school drop off.
Number of children: You’d be caring for our gorgeous and delightful 6 year old boy.
Car: Require your own car to do school drop off.
The school is a 6-10 minute / 2.9km drive from our home.
We’d supply a car seat to use, including training in how to properly and safely fit and remove it.
Reimbursement for use of car is in line with the ATO rate: 88c per kilometer to cover petrol, insurance and usage etc. Given the distances are fixed, that’d be about $25 a fortnight.
Position duration: 12 months or longer.
*During the school holidays the hours may reduce a little bit however I’ll still need about 1-3 days a fortnight, as I’ll still mostly be working. Public holidays which change my RDOs may reduce the hours here and there as well.
Start date: Tuesday the 24/2/26.
We’d have one short meet and greet before that, and then ideally Monday 23/2/26 one practice shift (paid) with me there the whole time, including coming with me to drop off and to introduce you to his foundation teacher so she knows who you are.
Must have:
Current working with children check
Car and drivers license
Police check
Parent references
A little bit about us:
Our little boy is a confident, kind, happy 6 year old who loves animals, trains, understanding his world and learning to be independent.
He is curious, asks lots of questions, hearing the answers, learning new things, telling you about them and loves mastering new tasks.
He understands himself well and is very good at advocating for himself, and he knows that we will listen to him and believe him. He loves music and singing to music.
He loves school and his friends at school.
We need this help as we both need to leave for work early however we are pretty engaged parents, with a lot of family support close by as well, and we’ll ensure that you are well supported and have everything you need to do this caregiving role well!
Our brand of parenting is one driven by best practice, data, reliable resources (raising children network, RCH guidelines, advice from GPs and other paediatric resources), principals that support children’s emotional wellbeing and the fundamental respect for a child’s space to grow, explore who they are, play, be silly, funny and cheeky and learn about their world!
We’re looking for someone who:
-has pro-social skills (Empathy, respect, kindness and gratitude) and because of these generally has positive interactions with others (a wordy way of saying you’re just generally a nice person!)
-understands and values being on the same side of children, and building a positive narrative around them.
-has a strong understanding and respect for the importance of body safe rules, child safe rules and safe adult rules.
-understands the importance of finding and giving them small opportunities frequently to succeed at things and celebrating these and them.
-genuinely sees children as equal, worthy and important individuals with autonomy and agency.
-ideally, has experience working with 6 year olds, and thus an approximate understanding of where a 6 year old is at developmentally and patience for what they can and cannot do.
